Temples in the Trees

February 12th 2010 16:33
It seems the most common place to find a temple in the city are trees. Every few trees you will see there is a small idol or framed photo of a God hung on the tree. The few people in that area start offering flowers and prayers to this idol and it becomes a temple.
Many of them actually become quite popular, and part of the entire hum of the city.

On my 15 minute walk from home to office I actually come across 3 such shrines!

Tree Temple

The above tree is actually a place the drivers and other guys gather around to play cards, but everyday there is a fresh flower garland there.

Restaurants in Bombay

June 10th 2009 10:04
As in any other metropolis, Mumbai is cluttered with restaurants and eateries. Small ones, big ones, street side joints, roof top places you name it, Mumbai has got it.
A few years back we even got a KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken)

Just got a news letter from these guys, they seem pretty good!
Best of Bombay!

Check it out, let me know if it helped ya....

Gaylord

Gaylord is a mid sized restaurant in Churchgate. It has a really good bakery, it is one of the first good bakeries available in Mumbai. Recently new places have started up close by but it still retains a charm.
They have a large variety of pastries, cakes, pies, mousse and other mouth watering stuff.
For those who don't want dessert they have puffs, mini pizzas, bread rolls and other dishes in veg and non veg both.
Other than this it has freshly baked bread from the baker which is right behind the bakery at around 6 in the evening. They were one of the first people to keep a variety of breads like tomato and spinach, rye, masala bread. Their french bread is my favourite.
There is also a restaurant attached to the bakery which serves meals and snacks, which is strictly OK.
In pastries they often have a variety of flavors and you might want to experiment like I always do but just once it back fired when I bought a strawberry mousse cake and well it tasted like a dollop of too sweet jam!

Paan

This is a unique Indian dish... It probably originated from North India. More than food it is like a post-food ritual.
Supposedly it eases digestion but no one knows truly what it does. Just this that there are many many who really dig it!

Food!!

June 24th 2008 17:58
Can't believe I did not make a category for food!!! Cause Mumbai People love food! I mean really every little nook and cranny has a hawker selling food. And it is amazing that they don't even try to make it look hygienic! Fine so I am gonna put this post in HangOuts because food streets around Mumbai can be considered decent hang outs, if your into that sort of thing.
In many areas of the city mostly business areas dense with office there is usually a food-street, this street is like a little space crammed with a large number of food stalls. Usually you can get a wide range of foods here from chinese, north indian, south indian, mumbai style food, pizzas, frankies, sandwiches, even deserts!
