The Sapling Project

December 20th 2009 09:11
Yesterday was the first meet of the Sapling Project, where free saplings where given ff for planting. This project to green Mumbai, has been started by @bombaylives and @ranjeet_walunj on Twitter.

Read more about this project here.

It was a fun meet where about 80 saplings were taken. We met at an area called Shivaji Park, Dadar. Quite a quiet place near a play ground. Later we went for lunch to a place called Om foods opposite Oven Fresh. Quite a good place!

UN MDG Summit 2008 in Mumbai

November 20th 2008 04:53
Mumbai recently hosted the UN MDG Summit 2008. Around 300 international delegates were a part of this.
It was hosted at the Jaihind College in South Mumbai. All the participants were divided into 8 groups and each group was assigned one of the 8 MDG's. These 8 MDG's had been fixed by the world leaders in 2000. They wanted to quantify the amount of social outreach being done and thus these 8 goals were set to be achieved by 2015.
Now that we are at the mid-point of the 15 years this summit was to evaluate how much had been done and what more can be done in order to achieve the targets.

The delegates got together and made proposals for achieving their MDG and also made a documentary! These documentaries are to be shown at UN head quarters.

I was a delegate at this Summit. You can read my personal views on my other blog...

Eve-Teasing

June 14th 2008 05:53
I learnt this word at 15 years of age when my class teacher spoke to us about it. Eve teasing in the asian sub continent refers to sexual harassment of women by men. Most largely it includes sexually suggestive remarks and often actual groping.
Mumbai is considered one of the safest cities in India, for women. So I dread to think what happens elsewhere, Delhi the capital of India is supposed to be the worst. But here eve teasing happens often.
The usual form it takes is you see a man walking in the opposite direction from you, you think he is an older looking man with an office briefcase probably has a family at home and hence a resemblance of a happy, well settled life. Also he is a few steps away from you so you walk relaxed. But just as he is crossing you, he takes a step towards you and his hand flings off in a ridiculous tangent to his body and hits you on your hand, face, or breasts really its not predictable!
